| Czech Republic and the Presidency of the Council of the EU

| Czech Republic took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 January 2009. For six months, Czech Ministries will lead Council meetings, coordinate working groups and will influence the decision-making process of the EU’s 27 Member States Ministers. Czech Republic will also represent the European Union besides International organisations and third countries, with the High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and the European Commission. Sweden will take over Czech Republic on 1 July 2009, until Spain do the same on 1 January 2010.
